KWC Crisis Management Training / Basic Training / Instructor Training
We offer classes to certify individuals as Trainers in the KWC crisis management program: Crisis Management: Verbal Intervention, Personal Control, and Defensive Techniques in Crisis Situations.
Crisis Management: Verbal Intervention, Personal Control and Defensive Techniques in Crisis Situations is a training program originally developed by Kevin K. Walsh, Ph.D. It is an updated version of the same program that had been trained by The Training School at Vineland, now Elwyn NJ, since the 1980s. Use and training of this program by Elwyn NJ was terminated in 2015 and the program is now available solely from Kevin Walsh Consulting, LLC (KWC). This program remains the predominant crisis management and personal control training program used by providers of services to individuals with intellectual disabilities in New Jersey.
We are happy to offer our Basic Crisis Management Training course by prior appointment to intact groups at agency sites. Smaller groups and individuals will be accommodated in other scheduled classes. The Basic Training typically consists of a 2 day intensive workshop conducted by a KWC-trained Master Trainer. Certification comes with successful completion of the workshop. Trainees must attend the entire workshop to be certified.

Linda Cobb is a long-term professional in the field of intellectual and developmental disability services, with a career emphasizing staff development, professional training, crisis-management education and community inclusion. Her work with The Arc of Atlantic County dates to 1988, when she has served as the organization's Training Director and has participated in New Jersey's Direct Support Professional Career Path pilot program.
She has represented The Arc at statewide professional-development conferences, sharing approaches for integrating online and classroom training into staff development.
Cobb has also been involved with Special Olympics New Jersey for many years and currently serves as County Coordinator for Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland Counties. Her community involvement has included supporting local athletic programs and recognizing programs that promote participation and inclusion for athletes with disabilities.
Her training work has also extended into crisis-management education. New Jersey's Division of Developmental Disabilities currently lists Cobb as the contact for KWC Crisis Management Training through Emerging Communities NJ, an approved provider of crisis-management training curricula.
