INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

We offer classes to certify individuals as Trainers in the KWC crisis management program: Crisis Management: Verbal Intervention, Personal Control, and Defensive Techniques in Crisis Situations.

This training can be made conveniently available at your site with a class of 5 or more from your agency. However, if only a small number of trainers are needed it may be possible to join other scheduled trainer trainings. Call or email for information.

The Trainer Training consists of a 2-day workshop conducted by KWC Master Trainers trained by Dr. Walsh. Certification as a Crisis Trainer comes with successful completion of the 2-day trainers’ workshop.

Eligibility – Candidates for the Trainer Training workshops must have taken the Basic course. Ideally trainees would have taken the Basic course or a refresher session within the last year prior to enrolling in the Trainer Training course. Those enrolling in the Trainer Training workshops must be employed by a provider agency and intend to train the program within that organization. Individuals who move to a different organization may request a revised Certificate showing the new organization.

Recommendations – Candidates for the Trainer Training workshops should be highly motivated individuals who have had at least some supervisory experience, although supervisory experience is not a formal requirement for enrolling in the Trainer Training workshop. The ideal candidate will be able to prepare materials, present complex content, and manage a class of trainees. Ideally, candidates should also have at least some access to senior administrative decision-making forums in their organization and have at least some role in one or more oversight areas in their organization.

Workshop Content – The 2-day Trainer Training workshops generally take place on two consecutive training days. The workshop consists of reviewing the course content (philosophy, normal routine, verbal techniques, personal control techniques, and affirmation/follow-up procedures) but primarily focuses on the teaching or didactic elements (lecture, demonstration, practice and role-playing, class management, and testing). Candidates will prepare and present sample technique demonstrations and lectures. Certification will follow acceptable performance as determined by KWC.
